What Is 8K Mirror Finish?
8K mirror finish, also known as No.8 finish, is the highest grade of mechanical polish applied to stainless steel. It produces a highly reflective, mirror-like surface with no visible grain direction.
Compared with other common stainless steel finishes, 8K occupies a distinct position:
- No.4 finish: A directional satin finish with visible grain lines, widely used for architectural panels, kitchen equipment and industrial applications.
- Hairline (HL) finish: A finer, more continuous linear texture than No.4, often specified for elevator cabins and decorative panels.
- Scotch-Brite (SB) finish: A soft satin texture produced with non-woven abrasive media, offering a uniform low-gloss appearance.
- 8K mirror finish: A non-directional, fully reflective surface achieved through multi-stage polishing with progressively finer abrasives. It delivers the highest brightness and clarity among mechanical finishes.
While No.4, Hairline and Scotch-Brite are directional finishes valued for their texture, 8K is specified where a true mirror appearance is required.
Rotary Disc Polishing Technology
Conventional wide-belt polishing lines create directional grain because the abrasive belt moves in a single linear direction. Achieving a non-directional mirror finish requires a different approach.
GLORY MACHINERY’s rotary disc type 8K mirror polishing line was originally developed by GLORY MACHINERY. This revolutionary system significantly improves polishing stability, surface consistency and reduces consumable cost, providing a breakthrough solution for the mirror finishing industry.
Instead of linear abrasive belts, the rotary disc system uses multiple rotating disc heads fitted with abrasive media. The discs spin while traversing across the sheet surface, producing overlapping polishing paths that eliminate directional grain and build a uniform mirror finish. Key characteristics of this approach include:
- Non-directional polishing action for a true mirror appearance without visible grain
- Improved process stability through controlled disc pressure and rotation
- Consistent surface quality across the full sheet width
- Reduced abrasive consumable cost compared with conventional mirror polishing methods

Typical Model: 1300 Sheet-to-Sheet 8K Line
A representative configuration is the 1300 type automatic sheet-to-sheet 8K mirror polishing machine line, designed for processing stainless steel sheets in discrete-sheet mode. The sheet-to-sheet route is well suited to cut sheets, diverse sizes and applications requiring flexible batch changes.
For detailed specifications of this model, see: 1300 Type Automatic Sheet-to-Sheet 8K Mirror Polishing Machine Line.
GLORY MACHINERY also supplies coil-to-coil 8K mirror polishing lines for continuous processing of stainless steel coil. Final machine configuration, process capability and performance targets are project-specific and require engineering verification.

Applications
8K mirror finished stainless steel is specified where maximum reflectivity and visual impact are required:
- Elevator industry: Door panels, cabin walls and decorative trims where a flawless mirror surface enhances the premium appearance.
- Architectural decoration: Wall cladding, column covers and feature panels in commercial buildings, hotels and retail spaces.
- Interior fittings: Decorative sheets for high-end interior applications requiring a mirror finish.
