In January 2026, a 1600mm oil-wet coil-to-coil polishing line was installed in Vietnam for continuous metal-coil surface finishing. The production line was configured to combine back-side and top-side No.4 polishing, Scotch-Brite surface conditioning, four-head hairline finishing, cleaning and drying, protective-film application, and controlled recoiling in one integrated process.

Customer Processing Requirement
The project required a continuous production route capable of treating both sides of the coil and supporting several decorative surface-finishing processes. The selected configuration combines abrasive-belt No.4 polishing for the back and top surfaces with Scotch-Brite conditioning and a separate four-head hairline section. This arrangement allows the production route to be selected according to the required surface pattern and the approved process specification.
Configured Production Process
- Coil loading and powered decoiling
- Strip feeding, pinch rolling, five-roll leveling, side guiding and head or tail cropping
- Back-side No.4 polishing through three polishing units
- Top-side No.4 polishing through five polishing units
- Scotch-Brite surface conditioning according to the required finish route
- Four-head hairline finishing when a linear brushed pattern is required
- Brush cleaning and air-knife drying
- Protective-film application
- Strip guidance, tension assistance and EPC-controlled recoiling

Main Technical Configuration
| Machine type | 1600mm coil-to-coil polishing and grinding line |
| Documented strip thickness | 0.3-3.0 mm |
| No.4 polishing units | 8 units in total: 3 back-side and 5 top-side |
| Hairline section | 4 grinding heads |
| Cleaning and drying | Brush cleaning with high-pressure air drying |
| Film application | Double-sided protective-film application |
| Control | PLC and industrial touchscreen operation |
| Recoiling alignment | EPC correction system |
Back-Side and Top-Side No.4 Polishing
The No.4 section contains eight enclosed polishing units. Three units are assigned to back-side processing and five units are assigned to top-side processing. The multi-unit arrangement supports staged abrasive treatment within the approved polishing recipe while keeping the strip in a continuous coil-to-coil production flow.
Scotch-Brite and Hairline Finishing
The Scotch-Brite section provides an additional surface-conditioning stage for producing a controlled satin or brushed appearance according to the selected consumable and process setting. A separate four-head hairline machine produces a directional linear finish. Final abrasive selection, surface roughness, gloss, pattern consistency and acceptance criteria remain subject to the approved samples and project technical agreement.
Coil Handling and Recoiling
The decoiler and recoiler for this installation were supplied by FOSHAN HONGJIA MACHINERY EQUIPMENT CO., LTD. The coil-handling section includes powered mandrels, hydraulic support functions and auxiliary strip-feeding arrangements. At the exit, the EPC correction system supports aligned recoiling of the finished strip.
Cleaning, Drying and Surface Protection
After polishing, the strip passes through brush cleaning and high-pressure air drying to remove process residue and moisture. Protective film can then be applied before recoiling to reduce surface damage during subsequent handling and transportation.
Project Value
By integrating coil handling, multi-stage No.4 polishing, Scotch-Brite conditioning, hairline finishing, cleaning, film application and recoiling, the line reduces intermediate material transfers between surface-finishing stages. The modular process route also gives the operator flexibility to select the required finishing sequence for different production orders.
Engineering Note
Guaranteed processing speed, working width, coil weight, electrical supply and final surface acceptance criteria must be confirmed against the approved project documents, material condition, abrasive sequence and customer samples. These values should not be inferred from the machine type alone.
